The Blog Herald has a post on blog and ping which is the term they’re using for spam and other nefarious tricks.
Blog and Ping is a online marketing term applied to a system that utilizes blogs and pings (short for pingback) to deliver content and/ or sites for indexing in search engines with the ultimate aim of profit.
I like the term splogs better as “blog and ping” are both legit technologies. This will certainly become a big problem moving forward. There are some crypto solutions where the source blog could register a SHA1 hash of their content prior to serving it to alert crawlers that the content is a duplicate.
I might blog about this in the future as I think this is a problem we could solve. I just need to give it some thought.
