Apple released their 10.4.3 update for OS X this week and yesterday I had some time to perform the update.
Upon rebooting I was unfortunate to find out that the machine wouldn’t start. My little happy Apple logo would come up followed by an aqua blue screen which would never give way to my desktop.
It turns out that if an OS update kills your machine you have to pay for them to give you support. I called Apple and I had to pay $50 before they would even talk to me. Of course you could pay for Apple Care but that costs $350.
I generally don’t mind them charging for this but if they break my machine I think they should fix it!
To add insult to injure they only had me on the phone for about 15 minutes before they tell me that only an Archive and Re-install will fix my problem. Of course I could have told them that. The reason I called them was so that I could find an easier way to fix this.
… and yes. I did perform a repair permissions and repair disk which didn’t find any problems.

That stinks. Just as another data point, I upgraded my PowerBook G4 to 10.4.3 without any problems. I’m hoping to upgrade an Xserve in the upcoming weeks also.
I wonder if this is problem with certain hardware?

I feel your pain. Everything on my iBook was fine until this update. Now my video is screwing up. 3d apps fail. Multiple network errors. >.
