It looks like Attensa has just received a series B round from The RSS Investors (their first major investment).
I haven’t really played a lot with Attensa but it’s a bit similar to NewsGator in that it integrates directly with Outlook.
My first thoughts are that they’re going to have to go after other markets than just Microsoft Outlook. It’s only a matter of time before Microsoft buys NewsGator (not that I have any inside information) or that they just add RSS support directly.
I’d expect a web-based version of Attensa soon. Maybe even a Windows Mobile version.
The Attensa approach of an integrated RSS reader / mail client is not entirely unlike what we observed with Yahoo!’s announcement last week. The difference, however, is that Attensa is client based. Still, this model (whether web or client based) seems to be gaining more and more traction.
KBCafe has a few inverviews including one with Attensa directly and another with Jim Moore:
We’re a venture backed software company developing an end-to-end RSS Network that cuts through information overload by automatically and intelligently delivering prioritized, relevant RSS information to anyone in the world and on any device. Strategically speaking, and as our name suggests, we are technologically focused on state of the art work around attention data. We are developing an integrated collection of software tools and infrastructure services that organize, distribute process and measure RSS attention streams in an end-to-end RSS network.
