I blogged about this last week but I think Technorati is imploding all over again.

They’re consistently missing some of the top blogs. I think they’ve either flagged Scobleizer or aren’t processing pings from wordpress.com because if he mentions Tailrank it doesn’t show up at all. I see mentions in my aggregator before I see them in Technorati.

I love Technorati and am a big fan so I hope I’m wrong.

Anyone else noticing this?

Update: I’m not sure if this is related but Richard Ault has just left Technorati to join Metroblogging.

  1. We’re noticing the same thing over at loadedpun and it’s all the talk on the Yahoo Videoblogging Group who are in the midst of Videoblogging Week 2006 – post one vid per day for seven days. Of course, everyone is looking for their vlogs and each other’s vlogs and a lot of them are not showing up, even when using ping-o-matic. It’s been quite the drag.

  2. They are totally imploding. I haven’t been updated in a couple of weeks (it’s showing the new links in, but not updating any of my numbers).

    It’s almost painful.

  3. Hi Kevin,

Well, the rumors of our implosion are premature :) But we are having problems getting updates from WordPress.com. Interestingly, we are getting plenty of pings from pingomatic, and some pings from WordPress.com via pingomatic, but not all. It’s a little mysterious. Matt is helping us figure things out, fortunately. We hope to have this worked out soon.

Thanks, as always, for your support.

  4. Adam.

Instead of relying on pings why not just resort to polling once an hour. I’d rather have you be 1 hour behind on Scoble and wordpress blogs than not aggregate them at ALL! :-)

  5. Kevin,

I’m having the same problem with my MT blog. For example I blogged a Washington Post story today about a government privacy report and while Technorati can find a bunch of other links to that story, my post, using the same uri, fails to show up on the technorati/wapo list of links.

It also fails to show up via a keyword search at Technorati.

  6. Kevin, we actually do poll some blogs, particularly ones who have trouble pinging us. But given what we’re trying to do, which is be as close to real-time as possible, polling just doesn’t cut it. It’s at best a safety net.

By the way, Matt seems to have fixed the problems on the WordPress.com side (thanks, Matt and Tantek!). We seem to be inhaling from the firehose once again.

Ryan, please email me at adam at technorati dot com. We’ll take care of you.

    Night, all.

  7. Yes, Technorati has been having lots of sleepy spells, lately (Or wordpress?). I am a wordpress blogger and went for 12 days in march without news from Technorati, tag or no tag, ping or no ping. That gave me time to devise my little trick to be referenced nonetheless. I ping technorati with the permalink of each new post. And gess what, it (most of the time) works. Post then show up under the title “permanent link to ….”. Better than nothing!
