Is IceRocket Melting? 2

What’s going on with IceRocket?… A search for letterman shows results from two days ago. None of their search feeds work for me either. If Feedster doesn’t catch up, and Google Blog search is crumbling, this just leaves Technorati.

Technorati Progress Report 1

Nice to see Dave addressing Technorati’s performance and scalability issues directly:We just weren’t expecting that kind of sudden growth, both on the posting side and also on the search side, and frankly we didn’t plan well enough to handle the load. We’ve been adding new machines to our datacenter – over 400 now – and more coming each week, and we’ve been fixing bugs and making performance enhancements on the web site as well.We also made some pretty significant performance improvements to keyword search – most now returning in 1 to 2 seconds; you can see some details on those statistics and also a month view. While improvements are nice 1-2 seconds just isn’t fast enough.

Trackback is a Zombie 0

But I’ll spare you all longrant about why it’s dead, since others have already written this for me: Trackback is dead…. Trackback is dead, Use PubSub Trackback really is dead – Sorry Elliott et alI’ve always felt that the case for trackback was a difficult one to make.

IceRocket Powers A9 Blog Search 1

I just found out that IceRocket powers A9 blog search (courtesy of Blake Rhodes who let me blog this). The search results actually seem pretty damn impressive. IceRocket’s UI is pretty slick but Amazon has done a great job with their A9 result set. They show images inline with blog search.

IceRocket Blacklisting Bloggers? 4

Blogs like kbcafe.KBCafe’s RSS blog is reasonably well cited (according to both PubSub and BlogPulse – Technorati was taking a break when I ran the query) and Mark Cuban isn’t doing himself any favours by doing things like this. Can you believe I actually hesitated about posting on this due to the negative image I got of IceRocket from this thread? There has to be more of a story here.

Interview with IceRocket CEO 0

We try a lot of different things like blogs, phone pics, news and will continue to do so.SEJ : IceRocket blasted into the “mainstream” after Mark Cuban showed interest and helped you with funding…. How much has Mark helped IceRocket?Blake : Mark and I were both interested in search and we had a lot of similar ideas so we teamed up about a year ago. Mark has helped tremendously, he knows a lot about the search space and blogs in particular, so it’s a great fithaving him involved.

IceRocket Link Tracking – Slow 2

IceRocket has this cool feature where they can show the number of inbound links to a specific blog post. This way you can show metadata about threading within your blog. Here’s an example:Which is a great idea.

Tags, Subscriptions, Prefered Services, and Service Selection 0

Yesterday I blogged about how I thought that Linked Tags are Evil.I need to remember that sarcasm doesn’t come across very well in blogs.

Napsterization’s Blog Search Review 0

Marry Hodder has put together a review of blog comparison tools (part one is here). One glaring omissions right off the bat here is Rojo. Rojo already provides this functionality along with Technorati, Bloglines, and Feedster.
