NewsGator had a really cool API contest for people to run with their API and build cool tools. The site says the winners would be announced on December 5 but neither the API contest site nor Greg’s blog have been updated.What happened?

NewsGator Buys NetNewsWire 1

Brent Simmons, the creator of NetNewsWire, will be joining the NewsGator team as a product architect.The NewsGator Online platform provides a highly integrated and synchronized reading/viewing experience across multiple devices, including the web, mobile phones, televisions, and e-mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook. The recent FeedDemon acquisition extended this to the Windows desktop, and now with NetNewsWire, the premier RSS reader for Mac OS X, the platform extends to the Mac desktop as well.I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

NewsGator just release their Online API:It’s been a while in coming…but the NewsGator Online API – the next major piece of the NewsGator platform roadmap – is now online and ready to use…. So if someone is using NewsGator Outlook edition at work, FeedDemon 1.6 or NewsGator Online at home, and you write a cool mobile application (for example), they’ll be able to read the same content and sync with your new application.Looks like you can synchronized read/unread state which means the attention concept should be easy to implement with NewsGator.
